Toxic Release

Inventory Report

The Toxic Release Inventory or TRI is an annual report that must be submitted by July 1 by facilities that manufacture, process or otherwise use toxic chemical specified by the EPCRA. This report is an annual summary of the facility’s air, water, and waste releases that are made available to the public. The TRI report requires a lot of work because of how much data and calculations it needs in order to be filed properly. As mentioned, this report tracks toxic chemicals that can pose a threat to human health and the environment.

TRI reports cover a wide variety of chemicals. The program currently has 770 individually listed chemicals and 33 chemical categories. Most often, the chemicals covered by this report can cause cancer or other chronic health effects, significant adverse acute human health effects, and significant adverse environmental effects.
