Chemical Inventory Report

Tier II

Chemical Inventory Report

This report is required if your facility has any hazardous substance in an amount equal to or greater than its threshold planning quantity, or your facility has been designated for emergency planning purposes. The EPCRA requires the operator or owner of the facility to submit a hazardous chemical inventory to their State Emergency Response Commission, Local Emergency Planning Committee, and local fire department. A hazardous chemical is a substance in which a facility must maintain a safety data sheet (SDS) under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Hazards Communication Standard.  These documents are sheets with detailed information about the health and physical hazards that the chemicals can bring.

The main purpose of this is to provide state, local officials, and the community specific information on potential hazards. The Tier II report needs to be submitted by March 1 and includes locations as well as the amount of hazardous chemicals in the facility during the previous year. Furthermore, the information must be made public on EPA website.
